Canon turns to Indiegogo for the Ivy Rec, a small outdoor camera integrated into a keychain carabiner, to be crowdfunded. It’s about the size of a USB flash card and connects to the companion CanonMini Cam App wirelessly via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to display a live preview on your device. The clip’s empty space doubles as a viewfinder, and on the back there is a single button allowing you to switch between modes.

The Ivy Rec has a 13-megapixel 1/3-inch CMOS sensor capable of recording 1080p/60 fps video, and for depths of up to three feet it is waterproof for up to 30 minutes. It’s slightly more expensive than expected at its $130 retail price, but could still be a good option for parents looking to get a starter camera for their kids. Canon claims the camera is shockproof and excellent outdoors.

DPReview mentions an earlier interview to speculate why Canon is following the crowdfunding path for its recent camera, where the firm disclosed that it is looking to capture as many fresh clients as possible, especially casual photographers.

The Canon Ivy Rec is now available for pre-order, and October 2019 is expected to be shipped.
