Pocket Cinema Camera 6K announced by Blackmagic

Blackmagic Design has disclosed its recent compact cinematographic camera, the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. It looks fairly comparable to last year’s 4 K camera; it shoots in Super 35 format (comparable to APS-C) with 6144 x 3456 resolution.

Aside from the resolution, the change to Super 35 will enable much better low-light performance and field depth control. Also, the 6 K camera utilizes Canon’s EF lens mount instead of the 4 K’s Micro Four Thirds, and Blackmagic claims 13 dynamic range stops with dual native ISO of 400 and 25,600.

The 6 K Pocket Cinema Camera has plenty of connectivity: mini XLR, full size HDMI, USB-C, DC power, microphone input and headphone output. The camera is operated mainly on the 5-inch touchscreen as the 4 K model. It can shoot up to 50 fps at 6144 x 3456 16:9, 60 fps at 6144 x 2560 2.4:1, or 120 fps at 2.8K 2868 x 1512 17:9.

The Pocket Cinema Camera 6 K is currently accessible, priced at $2,495— nearly twice as much as the 4 K model of Blackmagic.
