Game of thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, announced by HBO

A new prequel, written by Ryan Condal along with George R.R. Martin set to co-executive produce. Its based on the history of House Targaryen as they fight through civil war and Martins 2019 book Fire and Blood. The plot is 300 years before the Game of Thrones events.

Casey Bloys (HBO executive made the announcement at an HBO Max event, an AT&T’s streaming service which is said to launch in May 2020. Funny thing is that the news came out just hours after HBO cancelled a previously announced Game of Thrones spin-off.

House of the Dragon has an “established history penned by Martin to serve as a backbone for the story,” according to Entertainment Weekly. The aim is to have the events of the series lead to The Dance of the Dragons  which is a major event in the Seven Kingdoms history, which leads to a civil war between two rival faction of House Targaryen.

It is not known when House of the Dragon is expected to air.
