Balenciaga to debut their next clothing line with a video game

On December 6th, the luxury fashion company Balenciaga will debut its clothing line by introducing a video game, according to WWD. The game is set in the year 2031, where a hero advances through zones completing missions and interacting with other characters. Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow is not described in detail, but the focus is the company’s fall 2021 collection. According to Input, the game will be playable through browsers.
As with many other industries, Balenciaga has thought of how to cause hype in a world where in-person launches are impossible. Different approaches were taken by different fashion houses where some opted for small runway shows and others made their events available online. It’s not the first time Balenciaga shows off its collection in an online format. Their Summer 21 pre-collection was debuted with a nicely produced video.

The upcoming collection is based on the theme of human destiny. The game ultimately shows a return to a healthy balance of nature and industry. When you complete the game, you will be rewarded with a breathing exercise set in a virtual utopia. This is not the first video game product debut overall. In 2017 Porsche debuted the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS onstage at Microsoft’s E3 conference. Porsche announced that the car would be on the cover of Forza Motorsport 7. Weezer debuted their songs from its Black Album in Fortnite.

Recently, many fashion businesses are collaborating with the gaming industries. Riot announced that Louis Vuitton would be designing new in-game and real-world items themed around the game. Acronym has made a jacket inspired by Death Stranding and sold It for $1785. This shows that the gaming industry is collaborating with the fashion industry heavily in the past years opening new opportunities and new ways to debut products.
